About
Canine Behaviour Guernsey was formed in 2017. Owned by Anna Jane Brehaut, it became a Limited Company in 2021 and is now Guernsey's largest private dog training and behaviour school, running seven group classes a week as well as fulfilling a busy schedule of 1-2-1 consultations and sessions.
CBG practices and advocates only the latest and modern techniques of training and behaviour support and does so with the dog's relationship with its owner at the forefront of its mind. Focusing on a 'hands off' approach, our training and modification programmes are tailored to the individual, concentrating on motivation and positive reinforcement techniques. Our methods move far away from old-fashioned techniques, which use force and physical punishment.
The company's motto represents what we are all about - teaching our dogs how we would like them to behave using kindness and understanding.
At Canine Behaviour Guernsey, we feel really strongly about continuing our professional development to make sure we keep our skills and knowledge up to date. As such, we regularly undertake CPD courses throughout the year.

Meet the Team
Anna Jane Brehaut - Founder & Owner
Anna is the founder and owner of Canine Behaviour Guernsey. She formed the business after she recognised the need for a qualified professional behavioural practitioner in the island. A former journalist and news editor, Anna spent her childhood caring for the animals on her grandparents' farm including horses, ponies, rabbits, cats and of course dogs. She has always been an animal lover and her childhood dream was to work with animals. Her canine coaching journey began when she brought home her first puppy, cockapoo Murphy. Murphy arrived with a tendency to resource guard, a problem some people would label as being possessive. Resource guarding is a very complex behaviour and so in order to help Murphy, Anna began researching and studying canine behaviour. It was not long before Anna's interest grew into a passion and she realised she could help other dogs and their guardians in the island with their problems. Anna now is the guardian of two adorable cockapoos, Murphy and Holly, and Working English Springer Spaniel, Ramsey. She therefore has a lot of practical experience with living with and training different personalities and breeds. Anna continues her studies and CPD training and is proud to have become a member and contributor to the Canine Principles Hub. A qualified Scentwork & Detection Instructor, she is also an approved Odour Recognition Test Assessor & Judge for the National Nosework Association. |

Sam Smillie - Puppy Training, Scentwork & Gundog Specialist
Sam is a trainer who assists with our life skills classes as well as our agility and specialised scent classes. She has six dogs at home and has a lot of experience training different breeds from working spaniels to Tibetan Terriers. Dogs and animals have always been an important part of Sam's life and she has a clear passion and love for puppies. She grew-up in a family home surrounded by dogs and was lucky enough to grow up with the occasional litter of puppies present. She therefore now enjoys breeding the occasional litter herself and is passionate about raising happy, healthy and well socialised puppies. Sam has been training with us for around four years now and has become a valued member of the Canine Behaviour Guernsey team. Her love for dogs and learning has seen her achieve a wide-range of qualifications in canine behaviour and training, scentwork & detection and trailing & tracking. We are delighted to have her on board with our values and ethics. She enjoys taking part herself in both agility and scentwork & detection and has achieved Level Three titles in Fenzi Team Nosework with two of her spaniels, Olivia, pictured, and Star. With a particular interest in scentwork, detection, tracking and trailing, Sam has recently completed a number of CPD courses on these subjects and has dedicated a huge amount of time to her studies. A muliti-talented individual, Sam is also a fantastic canine photographer and often brings her camera along to classes to capture some very precious training moments! |

A dog has no use for fancy cars, big homes, or designer clothes. A water log stick will do just fine. A dog doesn't care if your rich or poor, clever or dull, smart or dumb. Give him your heart and he'll give you his. How many people can you say that about? How many people can make you feel rare and pure and special? How many people can make you feel extraordinary?
